Chemours Opteon™ SF80 is a next-generation, low-GWP precision cleaning fluid designed to meet the high solvency needs of the industrial cleaning market. It is a safe, nonflammable and environmentally friendly solvent with a low global warming potential (GWP <2.5) – highly desirable in industrial cleaning applications like vapor degreasing.
Opteon™ SF80 is a blend of proprietary fluids and trans-1,2-dichloroethylene (t-DCE) with azeotrope-like properties. Its exceptional solvency power (Kb value = 99) makes it an ideal candidate to replace trichloroethylene (TCE), n-propyl bromide (nPB), benzene, perchloroethylene, methylene chloride and other strong solvents, and a great replacement for low-to-medium solvency fluids such as HCFC-225, HCFC-141b, HFEs, PFCs, CFCs and aqueous cleaners.

Opteon™ SF80 was evaluated for cleaning fluxes/residues and found effective in cleaning non-polar rosin flux residues from SMT printed circuit boards.
Safety and Storage
The product is volatile; its vapor may become flammable when mixed with air at 7.25–15.25 vol%, so a safety risk assessment is needed to evaluate whether ATEX-approved equipment is required. Store containers in a clean, dry area and protect them from freezing and from temperatures above 46 °C. When stored properly, an unopened package has no shelf life.

FAQ
What is the difference between Opteon™ SF33 and Opteon™ SF80?
SF33 is a pure component (HFO-1336mzz-Z) with a 33.4 °C boiling point, Kb 11.3 and GWP 2 – for precision cleaning, rinsing, aerosols and two-phase cooling. SF80 is a blend with t-DCE with high solvency (Kb 99), a 47 °C boiling point and GWP <2.5 – for vapor degreasing and removal of oils, flux and silicone.
Are they flammable?
Neither fluid has a flash point (ASTM D56 / D1310). SF33 also shows no vapor flammability (ASTM E681). SF80 is classified as a nonflammable liquid by NFPA and DOT, but its vapor may become flammable in air at 7.25–15.25 vol%.
Will Opteon™ SF80 work in my existing degreaser?
According to Chemours, existing vapor degreasing equipment can in general be used with minor or no modifications. Contact ASI to check your process.
